NorCal vs SoCal
Comment dire...
Morceau choisi:
Will Rogers once said, "children in San Francisco are taught two things: love the Lord and hate Los Angeles."
Admittedly, I am the progeny of this school of thought and a trained snob when it comes to issues below the border.
To my dear Southerners, we're inherently different creatures. Southern California is summer, Northern California spring. We're cerebral, you're celeb. We're the birthplace of Jerry Garcia, the microprocessor, Genentech, Ghirardelli chocolate and the world's biggest garlic festival. You spawned O.J., boob jobs and the Valley. And I blame you for the Gubernator. Our anthem is sung by one of the best crooners in history. What's yours again?
I'll take our list of hunky Silicon Valley bachelors - all admitted pocket-protector sporting nerds - over ditzy Hollywood hotties any day. And with San Francisco, which according to a recent MSN Money report has the highest number of doctorate degrees per capita than any other American city, good conversation isn't difficult to come by. Home to eBay, Apple, Intel, IBM, Oracle and some of the biggest venture capitalist firms in the nation, our businesses drive this state's top-ten international economy and are at the root of those stunning motion picture graphics.
Sure we're not reputedly the sprawling, "hard-working" metropolis where family time is spent on Interstate 405 on a cell phone. But the same MSN Money report listed four Bay Area cities as the "Best Places to Get Rich," three of them ranking in the top five, above New York City. No Southern California cities were mentioned.
But we're more than the brains behind this operation. Our lovable hippy friends up at UC Berkeley take care of the Galapagos turtles, sea scum rights, nuclear radiation and human rights issues for us so we have time to enjoy all our entertainment. We stand up and mobilize for causes that hit home instead of glitzing about a ballroom writing checks in front of dime-a-dozen celebrities in the hopes that a cool million will do the trick
Quite simply: Northern California is hecka cool.
